What's in it
- Blue Agave
Spanish for “daisy,” the margarita is one of North America’s most beloved cocktails. It is also one of our favourite ways to enjoy Tequila Vecindad! To make your own, rub the rim of an old-fashioned glass with a lime and dip it in salt. Combine 60ml of Tequila Vecindad with 25ml lime juice, and 25ml simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Fill your glass with ice, and strain your cocktail into the glass. Add a lime garnish and you’ll have the perfect drink to enjoy with friends.Back to shop
When you smell Vecindad, you will experience flashes of herbal notes like grass, lemongrass and mint, which give way to citrus and yellow apple hues.
When you taste Vecindad, you’ll be met with a smooth agave body, with notes of citrus, flowers and mint leaves. An initial sweetness will leave a lightly bitter finish on the tongue.
On the western edge of Mexico, bordering the Pacific ocean, is the state of Jalisco. This state is well-known as the birthplace of two important parts of Mexican culture - tequila and mariachi music! Its capital, Guadalajara, is a cultural hub, packed full of neo-classical architecture and colonial plazas. The Tequila Volcano next to the fields where the blue agaves grow is one of Jalisco’s highest points.
Agaves from the volcanic Tequila mountains
Creator Juan Carlos Gonzalez is a man in love with agave. He believes that every agave has its own distinct personality and that its character can be perceived through taste alone. When creating Tequila Vecindad, he sought out a very special blue agave that grew up in the clouds 1200m above sea level. The agaves that go into this tequila come from the Valle el Tequila or "Tequila Valley" - a dry flat area in Jalisco, Mexico near a volcano. This volcanic soil adds a rich minerality to the agave hearts.
A Taste of the Neighbourhood
After the blue agave hearts or "piñas" are harvested, they are cooked and milled, separating the agave juices from the fibres. The juices are then fermented and distilled in food-grade stainless steel columns. The result is a high-quality, crystalline tequila with notes of citrus and herbs. The incredible artwork found on the Tequila Vecindad bottle was created by a local Mexican artist. Because “vecindad” is a Spanish word meaning “neighbourhood,” he wanted to use the bottle to bring the stories and imagery of a classic Jalisco neighbourhood to life. Through his vibrant art style, he creates a captivating piece that is as unique and authentic as the tequila itself.
The Brains Behind It
The Fisher of Dreams
Juan Carlos Gonzalez, better known as the Fisher of Dreams, or “el tío pesca”, founded the Santa Sabia distillery back in 2013. His rich and varied journey through life brought him to Oaxaca, the home of mezcal, where he was overwhelmed by the incredible diversity and richness of the native agave species. His love for the plants shines into all of his spirits. Along with producing high-quality craft spirits, Juan also works locally to increase awareness about sustainability as well as the conservation of wild agaves.More on the Brand
