Named affectionately after Francis Drake, this cocktail takes refreshment to the max and is perfect for the beach. To make your own pour 60ml of Yaguara Ouro and 30ml of pressed lime juice over ice in a lowball glass. Add two teaspoons of caster sugar and 8 mint leaves and stir. Make sure not to crush the mint leaves, as this will release bitterness into the cocktail. Finish by topping with 75ml of sparkling water, and garnish with mint.Back to shop

When you taste Yaguara Ouro, your palate will be met with woody, coffee and chocolate base notes, wrapped up in a smooth, intense, tannic texture.
Pablo Meneghal is the first of the Meneghal family to produce cachaça, first arriving in Santos in 1888 to try his hand as a sugarcane farmer. Sugarcane has been grown in Brazil for centuries. After being settled by Portuguese explorers in 1500, the first sugarcane was planted in 1502. Cachaça production began in 1532 with the creation of the first copper still. Legend has it that Sir Francis Drake, or “El Drago” as the Brazilians call him, was the inventor of the famous caipirinha cocktail in 1546. Cachaça accompanied the Brazilians throughout their quest for freedom from the Portuguese, and is still the national drink today.
Ouro is Yaguara’s first barrel-aged cachaça. The extreme diversity of Brazilian woods lends itself well to this project. After aging for a year in native Cabreúva wood, Ouro is then aged for another year in American oak barrels. After that, it is blended with cachaça aged in Brazilian Amburana wood. Each variety of wood brings its own expressive personality to the final product, creating a profound, rich flavour profile.
The Meneghal family has generations of knowledge when it comes to small-batch cachaça production. This wisdom is combined with master blender Erwin Weimann’s expertise to create Ouro - a perfectly polished aged cachaça. Ouro is distilled in tiny batches of only 750L in a traditional copper still. It is monitored by computers as well as by the blender to ensure that the product has exceptional purity and quality.
After Pablo Meneghal started in the late 1800s as a sugarcane farmer, there has been a long line of cachaça producers in the Meneghal family. Pablo’s great-great-grandson, Thyrnos, is the latest of the Meneghal family to distill small-batch cachaça. In 2013, he called upon the late Erwin Weimann to help create Yaguara. Erwin’s 40 years of experience in chemistry and his expertise in blending proved to be the perfect foil for the Meneghal family’s artisanal cachaça distillations. The result is a refined, modern, refined and ultra-stylish blend.More on the Brand
